Green Day Concert
(The picture above has been stolen from www.greenday.ws... it's not from the concert, but oh well.)
YAY!!!!!  Another chance for me to ramble for a bit.  This rambling's about another concert... GREEN DAY!  On June 17, 2001, at 9:00 in the morning, three friends and I (in alphabetical order- Dan, Jessica, Troy) departed for St. Paul, Minnesota for what would turn out to be the best concert ever!!!!  The plan was to pick up Joe south of the Twin Cities; go to Dan's aunt's house north of the Twin Cities, where we were very graciously offered an awesome place to stay; and meet Jeff, Alex, and Chad (I don't really know Alex and Chad, but they seem cool... and they must be if they like Green Day!) at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium in the Rivercentre in St. Paul, Minnesota.  Well, at 9:30 a.m., we departed again, with the same plan in mind, and with Troy's ticket!
Not to bore anyone with details of the journey, everything went pretty smoothly... and we got to the concert... purchased t-shirts... and entered the General Admission area.  It wasn't as big as the Weezer concert because there was a huge balcony, also... but the concert RULED!!!!!!!!!  The Living End opened at 8:00 p.m., and they're basically as famous in Australia as Green Day is in the United States.  They were really good, too... in addition to being incredibly loud!  The bassist did some amazing thing with his hands... and their CD is definitely worth buying!
Green Day began playing slightly after 9:00 p.m., and they played a good mix of music from "Dookie," "Insomniac," "Nimrod," and "Warning."  They also played one song from "Kerplunk" (I bought that CD today, too... and despite what some people say, it's good!  Just don't compare it to the other Green Day CD's.) and a cover of a song by Operation Ivy.
Green Day was really good at getting the crowd going.  I'm not sure how many times we shouted out "heeeeeeeyyyyyo" and "One, two, one two three four," but I don't have enough fingers and toes to count all the times.  But anyway, Green Day motivates the crowd to sing along with the songs, fill in some of the blanks, and YELL!!!!!!  And, dang, I did a lot of yelling.  Yelling!  Yelling and jumping!  Yelling more!  Most of the masculinity in my voice was lost by the end of the concert, so I had no choice but to scream like a girl near the end.  But it was definitely worth it.  I still don't completely have my voice back, but I lost it for a good cause, eh? :)
Watching Green Day perform was fun, and it appeared as if the band members had fun, too.  There were costumes used during "King For a Day," and they invited some people on the stage to play their instruments after the Operation Ivy cover song.  I bet they also had a good time attempting to fool the crowd--  during "Longview," just as I was guessing that the concert was winding down, they dropped the curtain in the back to reveal a new one, and the show rocked on!  It was awesome!!!!
Anyway, Green Day played for about two hours... and it was the best concert I've ever been to!  (Weezer's second, Smashing Pumpkins is third, and I after that I don't really care.)  It was so much fun!  In fact, the whole trip was... even the downpour after the concert that was so big that my wipers couldn't even keep up with the rain while we were pulled over on the side of the interstate!  Even forgetting where we parked the car in downtown St. Paul was fun.  So, the moral of the story is... umm... is there a moral?
